 Tuesday, June 30, 2009: Senators Cornyn, McCain and McConnell Health Care Reform Town HallSen. Cornyn, accompanied by U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-KY, and U.S. Sen. John McCain, visited the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to tour the center, meet with patients and host a discussion with Texans regarding the current debate on health care reform. Sens. Cornyn, McConnell, and McCain heard from Texans of all walks of life on their concerns with access to affordable health care, their personal health care experiences, and their ideas for how best to reform our current health care system.  Tuesday, June 30, 2009: Project Access Health Care Reform MeetingSen. Cornyn met with prominent medical leaders from Dallas to discuss pending health care reform legislation and efforts underway to provide affordable care to Dallas’ uninsured and medically underserved individuals. Their roundtable discussion took place at Christ’s Family Clinic at Preston Road Church of Christ, a charitable health clinic and participant in Project Access Dallas (PAD), a network of volunteer physicians, partnering hospitals, community charity health clinics, and ancillary partners who volunteer to care for working poor and low-income patients.  Monday, June 29, 2009: San Antonio Centro Med FQHC EventContinuing his health care outreach tour throughout Texas, Sen. Cornyn visited with patients, physicians, staff and prominent medical leaders from the San Antonio community to discuss the current debate on health care reform at the Centro Med Southside Clinic and Wellness Center. Sen. Cornyn participated in a roundtable discussion and toured the center’s health clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), which opened last week. [view gallery]
 Tuesday, June 23, 2009: Meeting with Nominees to Head NASASen. Cornyn hosted a meeting in his Washington office with the White House's nominees for NASA Administrator and NASA Deputy Administrator, Gen. Charles Bolden and Lori Garver, respectively. During their meeting, they discussed how important it is that Johnson Space Center remain at the forefront of manned-space travel, and Sen. Cornyn pledged to give Gen. Bolden and Lori Garver his full support and do everything he can to ensure a swift confirmation process so we can have quality leadership in place at NASA. [view gallery]
 Tuesday, June 16, 2009: Meeting with Austin Chamber of CommerceSen. Cornyn met with members from the Austin Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC. They discussed their mutual support for health care reform that provides real cost savings for employers and consumers, as well as encouraging meaningful competition in the marketplace. They also discussed efforts to expand renewable energy initiatives in Texas and transportation issues. [view gallery]
 Thursday, June 11, 2009: Introduction of Legislation to End Government Ownership of Private IndustriesAt a press conference, Sen. Cornyn, joined with Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., in introducing legislation that would require the federal government to end its ownership of the private industries it has acquired over the past 15 months, at the expense of the taxpayers. Their bill, the Government Ownership Exit Plan Act of 2009, would protect taxpayers from the significant liabilities they have been exposed to as a result of the federal government's takeover of several industries, including the banking and auto industries. Cornyn hosted a roundtable discussion on health care reform with Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and the Presidents of Dallas' premier hospitals as part of his health care outreach tour across the state. As the Senate Finance Committee considers sweeping legislation that would initiate a full-scale Washington takeover of our nation's health care system, Sen.
