VIDEO: On Fox, Cornyn Discusses DOGE, Pam Bondi Meeting
Raising the visibility of this issue, as Elon [Musk] and Vivek [Ramaswamy] have done… will give us an opportunity to try to find some consensus.
Congress has tried to kick the can down the road on some of the hard decisions, which are where we should cut and where we should seek efficiencies, but frankly… we have run out of road to kick that can down.
I’m really excited about the opportunity we have now.
WASHINGTON – Today on Fox News’ The Faulkner Focus, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) discussed ways Republicans can work with the incoming Trump administration to rein in spending and get our economy back on track, including his role as a founding member of the Senate DOGE Caucus, as well as his meeting with Pam Bondi, whom President-Elect Trump has announced he will nominate to serve as U.S. Attorney General. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video can be found here.
On GOP 2025 Economic Agenda:
“We all know this is a change election.”
“The American people felt like the country was heading in the wrong direction, and one of those big reasons is because of inflation… because the size of the federal government, and $36 trillion in debt.”
“The federal government has gotten bigger and more bloated as it’s taken on more responsibility, but that’s because of the taxing power the federal government has.”
“In a very dangerous world, perhaps the most dangerous we’ve seen since World War II, we are on a path where we’re now spending more money on interest on the national debt than we are on defense. We have to fix that.”
On Senate DOGE Caucus:
“Raising the visibility of this issue, as Elon [Musk] and Vivek [Ramaswamy] have done, I think will give us an opportunity to try to find some consensus.”
“We need to rack and stack our priorities where we can have the biggest impact quickly, but this is a small window of opportunity now.”
“Congress has tried to kick the can down the road on some of the hard decisions, which are where we should cut and where we should seek efficiencies, but frankly, Martha, we have run out of road to kick that can down.”
“I’m really excited about the opportunity we have now.”
On Meeting with Attorney General Nominee Pam Bondi:
“We both share a desire to restore [the] most fundamental institutions like the Department of Justice and FBI into nonpolitical entities.”
“People now don’t trust the FBI, they don’t trust the Department of Justice to be impartial.”
“I know she is committed to doing that, and I intend to do everything I can to help her.”
