WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement after voting in the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance the nomination of Merrick Garland to be U.S. Attorney General to the Senate floor:
“Judge Garland’s extensive background and commitment to depoliticizing the Justice Department make him the right choice under this Administration to serve as Attorney General,” said Sen. Cornyn. “However, that doesn’t change the fact that he and I disagree on a host of issues, and I’m under no illusion that Judge Garland will be a firm check on progressives’ ideological wish list during his tenure.”
