WASHINGTON – In advance of a federal aid program expiring next week, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today announced his support for the Air Carrier Worker Support Extension Act to help U.S. airlines keep their workers on the payroll amid significant decrease in travel demand during the pandemic. This bill would extend the Payroll Support Program (PSP) established in the CARES Act beyond its current deadline on September 30th through March 2021 and provide additional financial assistance for airline employee wages, salaries, and benefits.
“Tens of thousands of jobs are on the line, and if Congress doesn’t act before next week, those families will be left without a paycheck or health benefits,” said Sen. Cornyn. “Helping airline workers keep their jobs will not only benefit those families, but will help keep the skies safer and air travel available for all Texans.”
The Air Carrier Worker Support Extension Act:
- Extends the Payroll Support Program through March 2021
- Provides financial assistance for employee wages, salaries, and benefits:
- Up to $25.5 billion for passenger air carriers
- Up to $300 million for cargo air carriers
- Up to $3 billion for airline contractors
- Reallocates $17.4 billion in unused CARES Act funds
