WASHINGTON—At the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced a Senate resolution recognizing the work, goals, and achievements of 539 non-profit Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) throughout the nation by designating the week of September 14-20 as “National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week.”
“As a member of the HSI Coalition in the Senate, I applaud the outstanding work of Hispanic-Serving Institutions to provide quality education for Texas’s growing Hispanic population,” said Sen. Cornyn. “Especially at the start of this unprecedented school year, I thank educators at these institutions for helping their students achieve their full potential.”
HSIs are defined as degree-granting institutions where Hispanic students comprise at least 25 percent of the total enrollment. Texas is home to roughly 96 HSIs.
