AUSTIN – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today gathered more than 100 Texas cadets and midshipmen headed to U.S. service academies for a virtual send-off ceremony. This summer, these young Texans will matriculate at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Sen. Cornyn compiled a video of submissions from his send-off ceremony participants explaining why they chose to serve. You can view that video here or by clicking the image above.
Both Sen. Cornyn and his keynote speaker, Lieutenant General Timothy Haugh, who leads the Air Force’s cyber warfare efforts, gave thanks for Texas’s newest servicemembers and shared inspiration for their journey ahead. They were also joined by current cadets and midshipmen from Texas at the Air Force Academy, West Point, and the Naval Academy, who have attended Sen. Cornyn’s in-person service academy send-offs in previous years and who shared advice for the new class of cadets and midshipmen.
